Treatment For Sciatica - Find the Cause of Pain
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on July 30th, 2009
When finding a treatment for sciatica one of the first steps to take is to discover the route and cause of the discomfort. With this clarified you can begin to find relief and long term remedies to your problem. Learn what the major causes of this terrible back pain are, below:
Herniated Disc
Often referred to as a slipped disc, this is where the cushioned spinal disc loses water, becomes slightly brittle and shifts in between the vertebrae. It puts pressure on the sciatic nerve which in turn gives you sciatica. The cause of the ’slip’ can be old age or even an injury.
Piriformis Syndrome
Found on the outside of the hip area is the piriformis muscle. It is this muscles job to rotate the hip and when it becomes swollen or inflamed as it often does it again causes pressure on the sciatic nerve.
Spinal Fractures and Column Narrowing
Spondylolisthesis occurs when one vertebrae has slipped over another due to a small fracture in the lower spine area. Often other conditions are related or the cause such as osteoporosis which is reduction in bone density, hence the small spinal fractures. Spinal column narrowing, also known as Spinal Stenosis. This is where the spinal canal narrows, ligaments can become calcified and thicken as to can some of the spine bone. This again puts pressure on the nerve roots at the base of the spine and the pain begins. Often a result of some arthritic conditions
From finding the true cause of your back pain, treatment for sciatica should be a lot more accurate and effective. Please do not attempt to diagnose these causes yourself. Whilst this article is a great place to begin your investigation you must seek professional medical advice.
