So What Is Sciatic?

Its a pain ensuing from irritation of the sciatic nerve. Pain of sciatic is usually felt from the lower back to behind the thigh down to the knee. The sciatic nerve is the biggest nerve in the body and starts from nerve roots in the lumbar spinal cord in the back and extends through to buttock area to send nerve endings down the lower limb.

Lots of people wonder, what are Causes Of Sciatic?

The most common one is disc herniation directly pressing on the nerve, which could cause irritation or inflammation. Some symptoms that could arrive would be internal bleeding, tumors, infections, injury and other causes.

Some Symptoms of Sciatic

  • Tingling
  • Burning Sensation
  • Numbness
  • Pain
  • Difficult to Walk

How is Sciatic Diagnosed?

Sciatic is diagnosed with a physical exam, some methods are

  • X-Rays
  • Films
  • Ct Scan
  • Mri Scan
  • Electromyogram

These examinations are to further pinpoint the exact causes of sciatic.

Tips To Help Prevent Or Ease Sciatic Pain

  • Adjust Your Car Seat
Believe it or not having your seat to far back can put a lot of strain on your back, make sure your hips are at a 90 degree angle, and your back should not be perfectly straight, but comfortable.
  • Yoga = Good!
I recommend you do some yoga, it can definitely ease the sciatic pain, go to your local gym or look around you town to find yoga classes when your back gets stiff.
  • Lift Those Legs!
Keep pressure off the lumbar region of your spine! I cant express that enough, from which most of the pain comes from.I recommended lying on your back with your lower legs resting on a low table such as a coffee table or a stable chair that wont swing. Your knees and hips should be bent at about 90-degree angles. Do this at least 2-3 times a week.

How Can Sciatic Be Treated?

The most traditional treatment for sciatic is bed rest, while its effectiveness has good results the only problem is that pain recurs still. lots of people spend tons of money on surgery which can come with lots of side of effects. Not only with the tons of money and recovery with surgery, lots of people suffer problems again within TWO years! There are other alternatives, such as home remedies which have proven to be very effective!

After suffering from low back pain most of my life and constantly being told by doctors that there wasn’t much that could be done about it other than, minimizing my movements, and laying on a heating pad, I decided to look into it myself.

What I found was that the doctors were giving me the wrong advice. First laying on a heating pad, only worsened the inflammation that was causing the low back pain to begin with. Second minimizing my movements did help to keep the pain from getting worse but, did nothing to alleviate it.

When the low back pain is first felt, an ice pack for twenty minutes every two hours or so, helps ease the pain way more than heat. Also, using the correct stretching exercises can help to realign the discs and vertebrae in the lower spinal column which, when out of alignment, pinches the sciatic nerve causing inflammation thus, causing severe low back pain.

The sciatic nerve is the nerve that starts in the very bottom part of the spinal cord and runs down the buttocks all the way to the toes and when pinched or damaged can cause severe pain starting in the lower back and runs down the butt and thighs and can sometimes run all the way down to your toes.

There are many ways the sciatic nerve can become damaged but no matter how it becomes damaged, the damage always causes the nerve to become inflamed. Once you treat the inflammation you will get relief from the pain and the way you treat any kind of inflammation is with cold (ice packs) just as you would for a sprained ankle or wrist.

The other thing that helps me relieve the pain is stretching exercises, designed for spinal extensions or more commonly backward bending, which are often called “McKenzie Extension Exercises.” These exercises are designed to strengthen the muscles in the low back which help keep your spinal column in alignment, when one or more of these muscles are weaker than others the spine can become misaligned more easily.

Preforming these exercises regularly has kept me, pain free for quite sometime and it only takes eight to ten minutes a day to stay pain free. So, if you find yourself quite frequently suffering from low back pain due to the sciatic nerve being pinched or damaged quit using heat, try ice packs and look into “The McKenzie Extension Exercises.”

So you slouch a little bit when sitting down, what’s the big deal? The big deal is that poor posture can have a significant impact on our spinal cord and lead to a great amount of pain in the future. All it takes is sitting up straight or standing tall to eliminate any kinds of back aches or sores that you may experience in the future.

When you hear of back aches, most people immediately assume the lower back. When you have poor posture, it puts a great deal of stress on your upper back, which is also considered your middle back. This middle area, known as the thoracic pain, will deliver a pain from the bottom of the neck until it reaches the top of the lumbar spine.

There are numerous effects you may receive simply by having poor posture. One of the more common results dealing with the pain mentioned above is either a muscular irritation or a ligament problem. How can you correct this you may wonder? Simply by getting a back support of some sort to help correct your poor posture.

It may seem ridiculous, but having a back support to train you to sit up and stand up straight can make a world of a difference. Not only can it help train you, but it can also come in handy during where you will be sitting or standing for a consistently long period of time.

For example, if you have to work a home show and stand at a booth for several hours in a row, getting a back support can take some of the pressure off of your back and help eliminate any back aches. Another example of when you may use a back support is if you are taking a long road trip where you will be sitting for awhile.

In this instance, it is vital that you get a back support of some sort because of the potential dangers back aches can have. Getting back pain while driving can be dangerous because of the discomfort level that turns into a distraction. What happens is you will begin to focus more on the pain than on the road, potentially leading to an accident.

If you are fortunate enough to have never experienced back ache before, which millions of people have, it is still wise to use a back support of some sort for preventive reasons. It is better to prevent back pains now than to deal with them in the future.

The next time you are slouching while sitting or standing, reconsider your posture. Poor posture can have a drastic impact on our lives when it comes to back aches, pains, sores, and pinching. So sit up tall and take the pressure off of your back.

Coccyx or the tailbone is one part of the body that can give you a lot of pain. The coccyx is that part of the body which is joined at the lower part of the spinal cord though there is really no life in that part as it is considered the vestigial remains of the long gone tail before the human beings evolved from the ancient beings.

That said the tailbone or the coccyx can really be painful because of a variety of reasons. A lot of people will have a defective tailbone and that is also called as coccydynia. In fact such is the pain of the coccyx that a lot of people will need top go undergo surgery.

However it is better that surgery be considered as the last option. A lot of people use coccyx cushions to avoid putting pressure on the tailbone. This cushion has a hole at the place where the tailbone will touch the seat so as to make sure that there is no undo pressure put on the tailbone.

A lot of sports persons, when they fall have a tendency to get their tailbone fractured. This again can cause pain however there is no way to correct it than to bear it and gradually the bone will heal. Seat cushions are the best ways to avoid the uneasiness while sitting. Massage and applying external pressure can also help only if it is done by trained doctors. An untrained person can cause more to the tailbone than to correct it.

Back pain is a problem that far too many American suffer from every year. In fact, some estimates suggest that 8 out of 10 Americans will suffer from some level of back pain at least once in their lives. While this is a devastating number, the one good thing I see in it is that when someone else is suffering from back pain, most people can relate fairly well. Whether it is because of their own personal experience, or because have seen someone very close to them that they know and love go through the agony of severe back pain.

For those people who have significant and recurring or chronic back pain, you know how desperate one becomes to try to find some relief. People resort to massive doses of anti inflammatory medications (NSAIDs - Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs) such as Advil or Aleve, even they know that it can be difficult on the kidneys. Or at the next level they start utilizing narcotics to try to deal with the pain. Eventually they may resort to surgical intervention to try to get some pain relief. However, studies indicate that for those who undergo back surgery for pain relief, only about one out of two, 50%, receives any benefit from the surgery.

On top of that, any kind of surgery involves a certain level of risk including complications and infections. When you consider that someone is cutting into your back and working with cutting instruments right next to your spinal cord… well, it’s understandable why surgery isn’t an easy choice.

One option that more and more people of choosing is trying inversion therapy on an inversion table. It is non-invasive, non-addictive (other than possibly being thrilled with the pain relief you may achieve!), virtually no risk and very low cost. Thousands of people have received significant pain reduction using these techniques and products over the years.

Is this inversion table some kind of new-fangled hippie therapy

Hardly. In fact, the idea of naturally decompressing the spine goes back at least as far as Hippocrates (400 BC), the father of medicine. Perhaps you are familiar with the Hippocratic Oath that all doctors take that says, “First, do no harm”. Traction tables or inversion tables seem to fit in quite nicely with that line of thinking…

Inversion therapy came onto the scene in the US back in the 1960’s through a Dr. Martin from California who developed a system called the “Gravity Guidance System” (OK, OK, I see why you might think this is some kind of ‘hippie therapy’… but read on). Over the ensuing decades more and more people were drawn to it, though traditional medical community couldn’t seem to make up their mind about what kind of position to take on it.

Eventually, ‘medicine’ decided that inversion therapy could, indeed, be a successful treatment for pain. They realized that any fears they had about possible problems had been greatly exaggerated. I have to think it took a lot for them to admit that this ‘thing’ could quite possibly, in fact, do some good for many, many people suffering and in pain.

Today there are many different products from many different manufacturers out there for someone to choose from. The price point is not terribly high, and in fact, used models are often not too difficult to find for a very good price. Whether new or used, you can probably find something for between $100 and $300. Compared to kidney problems, narcotics, surgical risks and the debilitating nature of constant back pain, many find this to be a small price to pay for possible pain relief, even if it is only temporary.

Like all surgical procedures - back surgery has risks and you need to know what these risks are and discuss them with your doctor. From personal experience, some research and experiences of people I know who have had back surgery I have put together a short list. Unlike a lot of surgery any operation that involves or is close to the spinal cord carries some very significant risks. It is important to investigate more conservative approaches before consenting to surgery.

1. General anesthetic means that you are asleep during your operation. Some surgery can be done with local anesthesia but there are risks. You may be allergic and have a reaction to the anesthesia you could experience anaphylactic shock. Pneumonia and infections to the lungs can also result in the use of general anesthetics.

2. Infection: Any procedure involves the risk of infection. A friend of mine recently had an outpatient back surgery. Three days later he was in the emergency ward with a serious infection resulting in five days in the hospital and possible permanent nerve damage.

3. During a back operation it’s possible that the membrane surrounding the spinal cord is punctured. If the surgeon does fix these punctures you run the risk of headaches, infection or even spinal meningitis.

4. You could suffer nerve damage. Anytime you are operating near the spinal cord you run the risk of nerve damage resulting in increase pain, numbness or even paralysis.

Additional risk: Lost of blood, blot clots, spinal fusion failure, the pins and other hardware can sift or more causing pain and the need for another operation. Finally the operation itself can fail. And even after a successful operation there is a long recovery period and possible physical therapy. All in all you need to be aware of the consequences of back surgery and make sure your doctor explains them to you. Fortunately my surgery seems to have been successful. Of course it’s only been a week.

I still have to put up with four weeks or more of lying on my back and according to my surgeon I may never be one hundred percent. That’s why I wish I had known about “The Lose The Back Pain System”. From my research this system seems to make sense. They have a long record of success. To my way of thinking non-evasive methods are far superior and virtually risk free as compared to surgery. You owe it to yourself to investigate this and other non surgery methods. For more information visit my resource box below.
