Causes of Back Pain

Lower back pain is a common affliction. Nearly four out of five Americans suffer with it. Whether lower back pain comes from comes from injury or weight gain, the pain you feel can be intense.

If you are one of the many with lower back pain, you may be interested in determining what’s causing it and how to alleviate it.

Think about what activities you have participated in lately. Your back pain may have been caused by a previous injury, slipped disc, strain, incorrect lifting or even poor posture.

There are some natural remedies you may want to try before heading to the doctor. Cold is thought to be a great back-pain reliever. Apply an ice pack to the inflamed area. The cold temperature should reduce swelling and inflammation.

Heat is another option. Try taking a hot bath or shower, followed by applying a heating pad or a hydroculator. The heat works to increase circulation by dilating the blood vessels in the area that hurts.

If hot or cold don’t seem to be doing the trick, you may want to also take an over the counter pain pill, such as ibuprofen. Follow the directions carefully and only take the recommended amount.

Another good solution is to begin a sensible exercise program, such as yoga or Pilates. It should combine stretching and flexing. Begin slowly and work out as often as possible. Lengthen your routine as you strengthen. Many times a regular exercise program will relieve the problem entirely and save you a doctor visit.

If you have experienced back pain, you know it’s a serious problem. Don’t ignore it and hope it goes away. Use some of the home remedies suggested and it should have some impact on your back pain. If the pain continues, you may have no choice but to see your doctor.
