Pain After the Chiropractor
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on May 22nd, 2010
Usually we go to the chiropractor when we are feeling sore. Our necks are tight from hunching over a computer like a cromagnon man. Our backs are twitchy and weak from our lack of tone in our abdominal muscles. So we pay the chiropractor a visit for an adjustment.
Frequently the treatment there relieves our discomfort as our bodies are brought back into alignment. There are some times when a person too stiff to bend or move when they lie down on the table are almost totally pain-free when they get up off the table.
But, occasionally, we can end up with more pain later than we had before we went in for the adjustment!
Before you call your lawyer about a malpractice lawsuit, consider that when you visit the chiropractor your body is being worked out…bones pushed and prodded, muscles stretched…just like if you went to the gym. And occasionally you come away sore from the gym, so it’s not surprising that a chiropractic visit will sometimes result in an increase in pain shortly thereafter.
Of course, you should consult with your chiropractor any time you are experiencing pain. However, for the irritation, achiness, stiffness and soreness that comes an hour or two after an adjustment, try ice first. You are likely experiencing some inflammation from moving all those muscles and bones around. Try applying ice to those sore spots for an hour or two. (Ice on for 20 minutes, then off for 20 minutes…repeat.) If the pain persists, contact your chiropractor.
