When Should You Try Chiropractic?
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on November 03rd, 2009
When most people suffer some kind of an ache or pain, the most common treatment of choice is medicine. Be it an over the counter drug (such as Tylenol, Motrin or Aleve), or even a prescription strength drug (such as muscle relaxers or even narcotic strength pain killers), drugs have long been the most common treatment choice for many pain syndromes.
But when does it make sense to see a chiropractor? And is chiropractic care effective and safe for the treatment of back pain, neck pain, headaches, fibromyalgia, sprain/strain injuries and other musculoskeletal conditions?
According to published scientific research, chiropractic has been proven to be a safe and highly effective treatment for musculoskeletal problems. It is non-toxic, non-invasive and all natural. So why don’t more people go to a chiropractor? There are many reasons, but the most common one is that most people simply don’t think about it. We’re constantly being exposed to drug ads (on the TV, on the radio and in every magazine and newspaper). And with all this exposure to drug ad after drug ad, it seems natural that medications would be at the forefront of our minds. The pharmaceutical industry is certainly banking on it!
Whenever you have a problem, and it doesn’t matter what the problem is (be it with your car, your house, your teeth…even your spine), it makes sense to always try the most conservative, gentle and non-invasive approach first and THEN gradually work your way up the ladder with progressively more involved treatment approaches. If you think about it, chiropractic care is the gentlest and most non-invasive thing you could possibly try. Why? Because it doesn’t involve ingesting any toxic chemicals (drugs) which then need to be metabolized out of the body by way of the liver and kidneys (thus stressing those organs). It’s non-invasive and doesn’t involve cutting into the body or anesthesia (ala surgery). What’s involved is gently slipping the vertebrae back into place (where they should be, thus taking pressure off the nerves). What could possibly be gentler than that?
There is a time and a place for all therapies. There is a time for chiropractic, drugs and surgery. The first thing you should try is chiropractic (along with physical therapy and massage therapy). If those approaches don’t work THEN it’s appropriate to go to the next most invasive therapy, which would be drugs. And if the drugs don’t work, then you should consult with a surgeon (as a last resort).
So try chiropractic first. You’ve got nothing to loose but the pain!
Do You Have Back Pain Every Day?
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on November 03rd, 2009
Back pain is one of the leading causes of missed work in the USA. It is common because we do not take care of ourselves properly. Back pain can be caused by:
– Not lifting with your legs properly causing back pain
– Not sitting straight up in your chair while at work
– Not sleeping on a mattress that supports your back properly
– Not stretching before a sporting event
– Not exercising on a regular basis
All of the above spell trouble for your back. My wife has had back problems for years and what she finally figured out was all she needed to do was do yoga once in the morning after waking up and one at night before going to bed. This has relieved her back pain 100%. The very back pain she has had most of her life.
So, if you want to avoid that horrible back pain that has been bugging you for a long time then you need to start doing the things you know you need to do.
– Start picking up heavy objects with your legs and not your back
– Start exercising daily
– Start stretching before each sporting event
– Get a new mattress that conforms to your back better
– Sit up straight in your chair at work or get another chair that supports your back better
Take care of your back since it is the only one you have and you can’t buy another one. These simple above steps will have you feeling better in no time at all.
Causes of Mid Back Pain
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on November 03rd, 2009
A mid back pain can make a person extremely uncomfortable. In fact, at times it can get so severe, that it may make the person feel as though they are being stabbed at the back with a sharp knife. There can be several causes to this excruciating problem. Here we discuss a few of them in brief:
Injury
Injury to this part of the body can lead to extreme damage and pain. The damage can be because of any reason, from a sports related injury to an accident. However, proper treatment and precaution can ensure damage control and recovery of the mid-back.
During physical activity people sometimes tend to strain their mid-back muscles. These muscles are very crucial, as they provide proper support to the spinal chord and ribs. If strained, these muscles can cause a lot of mid-back-pain. For that matter, make sure you take proper nutrition and supplements, apart from prescribed treatment, that help the muscles to recover from the strain and rejuvenate them, so that they can perform their task well.
Slip Disc
Our spine is secured by the vertebrae, which consists of several discs that have the functionality of providing tangibility to the spine. When any of these discs slide out or slip, then the nerves start getting excessively pressurized, which results in inflammation and excessive pain in the mid-back region.
Gas issues
Excessive formulation of gas inside the stomach may also lead to mid back-pain. The gas produced starts to exert excessive pressure around the area and the back, leading to anguishing pain. Hence, if you have a bad stomach or gastric problems, then make sure you do not neglect it and take proper treatment. This can save you from back-pain.
Pregnancy
Fertility and conception lead to certain health problems in women. As the months get ahead, the weight on the spinal chord also increases, leading to back-pain. Moreover, pregnancy also leads to problems in the woman’s metabolism, which also cause mid-back pain.
The mid back is the area that begins just below the neck and extends till the rib cage. It is very crucial, as it is the compensatory region of the back. Hence, if you ever feel any kind of mid-back pain, from light to extreme, make sure you go to a doctor and get yourself treated, before it’s too late.
