Living With Chronic Lower Back Pain
Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on September 04th, 2009
Living with chronic back pain is a bummer. After living through several episodes of back spasms and excruciating pain, you tend to be constantly careful about how you do everything. Your thoughts are focused on how you walk, how you bend over, what you pick up, how you pick it up etc. ANYTHING to keep that back spasm and/or back pain from returning!
After recovering from a bout with back pain, it is important to focus on things such as exercises which will strengthen your abdominal muscles and improve your posture. And, if you have a spare tire around that waistline, it is important to lose that excess weight as that will put a strain on your back. Some exercises that will help you accomplish those goals while putting minimal strain on your back include aerobics, Pilates, swimming and walking. Consult your doctor or physical therapist for exercises that will be appropriate to your particular needs. Start out slowly and work your way up to a level that is not too hard on your back, but that will be aggressive enough to tone those muscles.
There are other things that you can do to live with chronic back pain. Consult your doctor and see if a mild muscle relaxant and/or anti-spasmodic medication he/she can prescribe which will be helpful to you. Also, if there are times when you feel the back muscles tightening up, you can use a heating pad to help relax those tight muscles.
There are ways to live with chronic back pain. You will have to make gradual adjustments to your lifestyle and decide what is best for you and your back. Don’t be too aggressive. Take it slow and easy and you will find a way to live with the pain.
