Back Pain - A Pain in the Neck? Part 1

Posted by admin in Prescription Pain Killers on August 16th, 2009

Is your back pain a Pain in the Neck? Perhaps in more ways than one, whatever the back pain, upper, lower, neck and shoulders it can a pain in the neck.

First of all it the pain can stop us in our tracks, it is meant to, to stop us doing further damage, it is our warning system and we are supposed to take notice. Do we? Sometimes, those who are tuned in mostly, even then some us have off days. Let me give you an example.

Say for instance you sprain your ankle from a pothole, sometimes it doesn’t need to be a big sprain and the shock goes all the way through the body and has to finish somewhere, sometimes to the last vertebrae under the skull to C1 and C2. The shock wave can end up anywhere which can be referred pain.

The shock that the body has just experienced can be held in the body as a memory and impede of movement with pain. So in some cases Back Pain can be a Pain in the Neck along with the neck and shoulders.

So what can we do about it? There is much that we can do, like always whatever you do take care and listen to your body. Given time and practice results will come, if the pose is a bit strong make it softer so that you are happy with it, agreeably uncomfortable is OK. Certainly NO strain.

The pose that is suggested is the Swastika 2; Swastika 3 is the deeper version when you are ready and a wonderful pose. (Swastika 2 and 3 are laying on the floor while Swastika 1 is practiced while sat up).

So Swastika 2. Lay on the floor on your front with your forehead on the floor and legs straight. Bring your right arm up to a right angle with 90 degrees at your elbow and palm down. Your left arm is also at 90 degrees but with the hand pointing down and palm up.

Now bring your right knee up to hip level and your knee at 90 degrees. See how it feels, if you are ok now turn your head to the left.

You can vary the pose by turning your palm to the floor, this gives more work to the shoulders, and you will know what I mean when you practice it, so go careful.

If you feel that the head and neck isn’t going where you would like it to go then vary the pose as you need to. You may want to turn your head towards the hand, that’s OK to start with, remember you will strive to turn your head to where you cannot see your hand.
