Constipation is a disease that affects millions of people annually. It is a major cause of discomfort and can be rather frustrating. Chronic constipation is getting more rampant these days and is resulting in what is called Back pain Constipation. Since the intestine is situated close to the lower back, the incidence of the pain triggered often occurs as the intestine is the recipient of the stool that is hard to pass out. This occurs mostly among the adults. While constipation may not be solely responsible for it, it can safely be assumed that it is a common phenomenon in the society.
Recent estimates and stats have shown that a large percentage of individuals who visit their physicians do so because of of the aches; next to cold and flu. There are various reasons people often suffer from the pain. Since we live in a world where there is so much stress, most people have to do a lot of walking, standing etc, which puts a lot of stress on the lower back. This coupled with the incidence constipation is what results in back pain constipation. Also, passing stool with so much stress can result in intense back pain. Because the anus is made up of sensitive tissues, chronic constipation can make it very painful as the tissues would have become inflamed as a result of so much stress put on it during the process of trying to pass out stool.
Funny enough, children also suffer from it too. So many kids and adults have gone to their doctors with complaining of back pain and have ended up being diagnosed with constipation. Back pain constipation is so intense and generally weakens the individual.
How do you know you have back pain constipation? Look for the following symptoms. If they are present, then you sure have got it.
- Consistent pain which doesn’t reduce even when lying down
- The pain starts at about the time you are finding it hard to poop.
- It doesn’t just remain in the lower back. It extends to the upper region of the torso.
- The intensity of the pain gradually increases regardless of what pain reliever you may have taken.
- Loss of appetite and nauseous feeling.
- Numbness and weakness in the legs, buttocks and feet
- Inability to pass feces and intense pressure on the bladder.
Back pain constipation can be treated using various methods. You could decide to take pain relievers while also taking laxatives. Unfortunately, it’s not been ascertained whether pain killers can be combined with laxatives or enemas. However, a meal consisting of a large bowl of All-Bran combined with a tablespoon of oat bran for breakfast, lots of vegetables, whole meal bread and lots of water can work wonders. Others recommend thyroxine as being very efficient.
